Chicago Commercial Security Tips

In this blog entry, the Chicago commercial security and Chicago commercial lock installation team here at Chicago Locksmith will detail the top security tips for Chicago retail properties.

Visual Deterrents

Visual deterrents discourage people from attempting to break into your property and steal from you or commit vandalism. Post signs staying on your property are being monitored by surveillance cameras and a live alarm agency. You should also put stickers on all cash registers saying that cash over a certain amount is deposited into a safe that employees have no way to access.

Employee Training

Train your employees to recognize suspicious activity like people waiting for other customers to leave the store or loitering outside the property a few minutes before closing time.

Sight Obstructions

Keep retail displays low so they don’t obscure lines of sight and so that you can see what everyone in the store is doing. If there’s blind spots in your store after displays are lowered, put in a wide angle mirror to monitor the area. Keep windows clear so you can’t be surprised by thieves.

Routine Switching

Switch around your routine. Don’t always go to the ban at the same time for daily deposits and don’t use the same route. It’s best to use two or more people to do the deposits.

Security Gates

We recommend installing automatic security gates to restrict property access to only unauthorized personnel.

Deadbolts

Make sure to install high quality, ANSI Grade 1 high security deadbolts at your property, and outfit all windows with high quality locks as well. This seriously lowers the chances that burglars will enter your property.

Safes

Keep valuable inventory in a strong, durable, and high quality safe. Ensue that you choose a safe that’s created for security and not just fire protection. Safes need to be installed by professional locksmiths.

Alarms

Install a quality alarm system that automatically connects to the local police department. It’s also a good idea to install a silent alarm that tells the police someone is at your property without the intruder being able to hear it. They are usually triggered by panic buttons hidden underneath counters.

CCTV Surveillance

Install quality, cloud-based security cameras at all entry points of your property so that you or security personnel can watch suspicious individuals at all times. Wireless cameras should be positioned in places that you can see from the front counter.
