New on the market is the Mul-T-Lock’s ENTR smart lock. It has the versatility to please every security conscious homeowner. We have put together a few tips for Chicago residents to get the most out of the Entr Smart Lock.
Biometrics for the entire Family
Everyone who actually lives in the home should be able to take advantage of the biometric entry system to allow access, regardless of whether they have a key or code. The biometric feature can be considered a replacement for a spare key hidden nearby – one without the risk of an intruder discovering the key and using it to access the home. Also, as a convenience mechanism, this feature frees other family members from the need to rush home in the event that someone is stranded outside. Upon installation, one of the first priorities should be ensuring that every family member who needs access is programmed into the lock and able to use the biometric scanner to gain access.
Let Traditionalists Be Traditional
Some people are simply adverse to technology. Most of us have met people who refuse to use common electronics like cell phones because the very idea of being in close contact with something they don’t understand makes them uncomfortable. For these people, the key or remote control key fob is probably the best option. While the lock should still be programmed into the biometric system for emergencies, having an actual key for everyday use can go a long way toward making them happy with the entry system.
Use Temporary Codes for Temporary Access
In situations where someone will have authorization to enter the home temporarily, like a cleaning person or contractor, being able to give them a code to do so is a terrific convenience. The temptation is to create a generic code to give to any such persons. This is a mistake that defeats the purpose of having a programmable lock. The danger when handing over a physical key is that someone could keep a copy after no longer being authorized to enter the home. Having an active code is no different from having a copy of the key. Unless you would feel comfortable handing over a key to someone and letting them keep it forever, delete access codes for these people as soon as they have no further business using it.
Someone Needs a Real Key
Even in a situation where everyone prefers to use the electronic entry methods to enter the home, at least one person in the family should keep an actual key handy. Things over which we have no control sometimes occur. Suppose a vandal targets the home and takes his primitive pleasure in bashing the lock with a stone – the most likely part of the lock to survive this mistreatment is probably the mechanical locking mechanism.
By following these tips, the ENTR Smart Lock can be a boon to both the security and convenience of any family.

Mul-T-Lock was founded by Moshe Dolev and Avraham Bahry In 1973. They entered the market with a 4-way multipoint lock; and, it made such an impact that soon Mul-T-Lock products were carried in the highest-security locksmith stores. Moshe Dolev and Avraham Bahry and the Mul-T-Lock brand became the emblem of the high-security market and in 41 years, that hasn’t changed.
Sticking to innovation
Moshe Dolev and Avraham Bahry built their first lock on an innovative idea. To remain leaders of an evolving market, both Moshe Dolev and Avraham Bahry needed to equip the Mul-T-Lock brand with fresh ideas and solutions to achieve new levels of security and set new standards and grades for new and existing products on the market. This included taking mechanical cylinders, deadbolts, key fobs, wireless locks and smartphone useable electronics to never before seen results.
Mul-T-Lock uses expert technicians to install and supply their products. Interactive®+, MT5®+ as well as electromechanical CLIQ e-cylinders are imperative to the new security market and take professionals to install and fix if necessary. When loyalty meets security results everyone prospers. The benefit of this helps stores stand behind their product and clients who purchase the product feel as if the investment was worth their time and money. Mul-T-Lock has built a business around loyalty.
With the onset of a heavy push to go digital with security, some users and retailers fear that these advances in security will be lesser accessible to them. For a complete access control panel like the SMARTair®, Mul-T-Lock has erased the worry and concern. In their 41 years, they’ve continued to do one thing incredibly well. And that is supplying information about their products in clear and informative ways. User interfaces with Mul-T-Lock are extraordinarily simple. Don’t fear the wireless.
Mul-T-Lock is here to stay
Mul-T-Lock USA, Inc. president, Roy Miller recently said that, “For me, and hopefully for our customers, there is a true value in my coming from the locksmith channel. Having been a part of this ever-changing industry for so many years, I’ve always been in a position to understand the specific needs and the unique challenges that our locksmiths encounter, but now I’m in a position to really do something about it. Now I can offer solutions made by a locksmith and for a locksmith; it’s very exciting.”
If there is one thing for certain, it’s that what began with Moshe Dolev and Avraham Bahry is continuing with Roy Miller. The future of technology couldn’t look brighter than it does today. The Mul-T-Lock brand is about to promote one of the most profound evolutions to security. Residential properties and commercial properties are deploying these locks as quick as they can. There isn’t a better investment and more reliable results than those found at Mul-T-Lock.

Theft is obviously an issue and it can occur anywhere. Most often we publicize the nefarious bank heists, jewelry smuggling or the theft of famous artworks in Hollywood films. A national favorite is the famous theft by “D.B. Cooper” who fled, by parachute, from a plane with $200,000 in 1971. But let’s be reasonable here. Auto theft and home thefts are more likely to happen to grounded everyday citizens. That doesn’t make these thefts any less interesting however. Recently the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) released their analysis of vehicle thefts from 1960 through 2013 and the results were fascinating to say the least. We took the information and thought about its relation to home security. Here’s our lowdown:
A Numbers Game
The National Insurance Crime Bureau reported that last year 699,594 automotive vehicles were stolen. That details a 58% reduction in auto theft since 1991. In 1991 the theft was 1,661,738! To make sense of these numbers a few things must first be recognized. In the 1990s, the idea of a single vehicle for a family home became displaced. For one reason or another everyone in a household needed a car. As cars populated the roads thieves saw a cash crop. The main reason for this was that production offered cheap vehicles to a consumer market. But to some extent these automobiles are valuable and what one puts inside them even more so. But during that process they skipped some steps. They completely mismanaged auto security. But, its not all their fault, since that time we’ve replaced keys with computers, fingerprint technologies and voice-verification systems. These technologies amplify security.
The decrease in theft percentage from then and now is just wild. That decrease is 437.71%. Some states saw their automotive theft remain the same or change very little, while other states adopted newer security technologies in their vehicles or benefited from other vehicles being safe— becoming something like a Müllerian mimic. So the increase in security helped everyone’s case and auto theft went on the decline.
We can draw a parallel to home security here. Since home security has been on the rise in consumer interest, especially in those cities with populations greater than 250,000, we’ve seen a steady decline in home invasion and burglary since 1960 as well. Although it might be emotionally painful to have one’s automotive vehicle stolen, think of how much more emotional it might be to have the most secure place in your life compromised. Valuables looted, generations of history taken from you without the slightest trace and more importantly the risk of your life and those around you. Home invasions do happen and unlike the chameleon auto approach, it’s best to adopt a form of property security that matches your security needs.
Today there are plenty of great solutions for commercial and residential properties that can keep them, their valuables and their persons safe. High-tech auto locks are leading the way. Personalized easy-to-use interfaces have revolutionized all former conceptions of what it means to be secure in today’s evolving word. If you’re concerned with security. Don’t stockpile yourself in to the negative statistics. Go see how you can protect yourself and the community around you by making upgrades to your home as soon as you can.

Every home should have a safe for storing valuables. Many people associate a house safe with protection from theft, but safes can also protect your possessions and records from fire and water damage as well. Here are some tips on how to determine the home safe that is right for your needs.
Before you go shopping for a safe, gather up the material you feel you need to put in your safe and then measure it. A safe of roughly one and a quarter cubic feet will hold about a foot of normal sized papers commonly used for business letters. Once you determine how many cubic feet of space you need, you can shop for a safe with the confidence that you won’t accidentally buy a safe that’s the wrong size.
Protection From Fire
Most buyers of safes are rightfully concerned about losing valuable documents, photos or collectibles should the house catch fire. The risk of fire is not a remote one, with one in four people at some point in their lifetime experiencing a fire in their home that requires calling the fire department. What degree of fire resistance you need depends on what you intend to store in the safe. Paper is generally safe up to temperatures of 350 degrees, but more delicate items like photos, DVDs and computer files can be damaged at half that temperature. Check the safe’s exterior or packaging to determine how much heat your safe can endure.
Unfortunately, it is more difficult to determine the degree of safety from theft a safe provides. However, simply putting something in a box with a lock will by its very nature provide at least some protection. Part of this protection comes from the weight of the safe. An average home safe weights about 100 pounds before you even put anything into it, which makes it hard for a routine burglar to run off with it. You can also get kits that will bolt the safe to the floor or wall. Consider hiding the safe in a wall or beneath the floor.
It is foolish to buy a safe that is not waterproof, since you never know when a flood may strike or water pipes may break. Check to be sure before buying whether the safe is waterproof. Safes that are water sealed also have the advantage of being air tight, thereby protecting your valuables from smoke that may fill the room the safe is located in, even if the room itself doesn’t experience the actual flames.
Buying a home safe can enhance your peace of mind, but do your homework first so you know what type of safe you’ll need.
Posted on May 26th, 2014 0 CommentsWhether you own a home or run a business, keeping up with your security plays a big role in ensuring that your family or employees stay safe and that thieves stay out of your property. Good lock systems should prevent most crimes, but even the most secure locations need an upgrade from time to time. If you’re considering changing the locks on your home or business, then you should consider the pros and cons of re-keying the locks or replacing them entirely. Read on for a few tips to help you decide.
What’s the difference between a re-key and a replacement? There’s a subtle but substantial difference between re-keying your locks and replacing them completely. During a re-key, the locksmith will change the existing key’s tumblers to reflect a different order. Doing so will render the original key useless, but the new key will still fit in the locks because the locks will respond to the new tumblers. When a locksmith replaces a lock entirely, he changes the key and lock system completely. This task requires a total overhaul of your locks and doorknobs to ensure effective replacement.
How do I know which method to choose?
There are different advantages to re-keying or replacing your lock, and it really depends on your current security needs. Those with greater security needs should re-evaluate their security at least once a year to determine if all locks and keys still work. Some of the advantages to re-keying include:
Less cost because the locksmith uses existing equipment
Reduced maintenance required during the re-keying process
Less time involved because the same locks are re-keyed
Advantages to replacing your locks include:
Better security particularly for businesses
Replacement of old locks that lack the proper parts
A more secure solution to broken or damaged locks
If you’ve experienced a break-in, then you may want to change your locks entirely because the lock assembly has been damaged by the force of the break. Re-keying is designed to be a cheaper and less time-consuming solution to keeping out unwanted visitors, and it has its place. For example, companies that terminate employees may re-key their locks to ensure protection from disgruntled workers.
What are my options for re-keying or replacing my locks?
You have two options for changing your key system: You can replace or re-key the lock yourself, or you can hire a professional. While many videos exist online to teach people how to replace their locks, the process can be overwhelming for beginners. Professional locksmiths have experience and can complete the task quickly, and the cost may be worth the effort it saves. If you choose to hire a professional, then look up their credentials and ratings online before committing to the job.
